Experience:
Corporate History
I opened my career with nine years service in the food industry for Cadbury Schweppes Ltd, I spent the following twenty five years in the recordable media industry with BASF plc.
Personally responsible for pioneering the marketing of audio and video cassettes into the grocery sector, I progressed within BASF to achieve the position of UK Divisional Director in 1995.
My life (and career) was changed in 1987 by attendance at The Leadership Trust in Ross on Wye. Although I was doing ok, I lacked a degree of confidence. The week at the Trust showed me that I under-rated myself, that I could achieve more and my group colleagues all told me that I was much better than I thought I was! They set me up for a smashing career and I remain eternally grateful to the Trust, but especially those group friends of 20 years ago.
I was selected as a Tutor by the Trust and I have gone back regularly over 15 years to try and help others take off their blinkers and achieve for themselves.
I enjoyed chairing the recording media industry's trade association for three years and successfully actively campaigned at Westminster and Brussels over the issue of recording media levies.
Appointed North West Europe Managing Director I managed the exit strategy of the recordable media division out of BASF, setting up brand-new wholly owned, independent subsidiary companies of Emtec Magnetics GmbH. Implementing significant change management, a fresh internal support service team was integrated with a restructured sales organisation during this process.
My total responsibilities encompassed sales budgets of £62 million per year, with a team of over 60 staff at three sites and with full P & L accountability. I led an International Project Group dedicated to creating new product areas for the company.
I believe passionately in a values based culture, and with my team we created just such a culture with the region's organisations. It was a fantastic experience, watching team members grow and develop within this empowered structure.
I left the EMTEC Group in May 2002 in order to establish my own business, developing the sales and marketing strategy that has enabled the company to achieve listings with some of the UK retail market's largest companies including Makro, Woolworths, InStore, Dixons and PC World.
This business has been sold in January 2006 to a trade competitor in order to ensure its future development and I concentrate my efforts with ProExcellentia and NRG Business Networks.
