Companies finding recruiting and retention tough
Posted by peopleperhour.com - 25/06/2008 13:55
Businesses in the UK are finding it difficult to retain staff as well as recruit them in the first place, according to a new survey.

Recruiters Ochre House found that nearly 70 per cent of the 900 employees surveyed did not plan to stay in their job for more than the next six months, with 28 per cent stating the culture and ethics of their employer as a reason to leave.

Staff turnover has also increased in the first half of this year; where in 2007 it was at approximately 30 per cent, some are saying that it has increased by up to 42 per cent.

Jennie Emerson, director of Ochre House said: "Our surveys over the past five years have shown that career cycles among younger workers, the 'Generation Y', aged between 21 and 28, have been getting shorter all the time.

"Organisations need to understand what really motivates their workforce and to adopt a clearly defined strategy for both recruitment and retention."
