How freelancers can survive the financial crisis
Posted by peopleperhour.com - 13/10/2008 12:54
An experienced freelancer says that diversification and investment in yourself are the best strategies for freelancers to survive the current financial crisis.

With the economy in turmoil as a result of the credit crunch it is highly likely that a lot more jobs will be lost in the coming months.

People who are freelance or self-employed are in a good position to survive the worst of the economic gloom, but even they must be prepared to make changes, freelancer Nick Daws said in his blog.

It is sensible to diversify and look for different sources of income. Book authors may also consider short stories, articles or ebooks. Other types of writing could include Internet writing, advertising copywriting, TV scriptwriting, comedy writing, and so on.

In quiet periods without much work, freelancers should take the opportunity to build up or refresh their own skills as new skills can be a route to earning extra cash in difficult times. Even simply practicing new skills in writing, editing, proofreading, designing will be time well spent.
