Small businesses and home-workers should consider the benefits of using VoIP (voice over internet protocol) as many are being "exploited" by the big telecom companies, a director has said. Vincent Potier, managing director of Vonage, a VoIP provider said small businesses should consider the service as "it's much cheaper". "There are a lot of small businesses who have a fantastic opportunity to save costs but still don't take that chance because they are afraid it won't work, "People don't like to move away from their comfort zone (and) when you are running a small business saving on telecoms costs is not the first thing you think of," he added. The costs do add up though, he adds, stating that by using the internet for phone calls you save on installation costs, line rental and paying for the calls. So although it may seem like an initially small saving, businesses or home-workers may find the advantages of changing outstrip the costs of staying with the provider you are most comfortable with.
