Many women in the workforce are seeking employment which gives them an opportunity to achieve a good work life balance. They no longer want to work unrealistic hours but instead are looking to spend more time with family and friends, fitting their job around their life instead of the other way round, as has been the norm.
Traditionally the workplace has been dominated by the need for men to earn and the role of women at home. However, Maureen Rice, editor of Psychologies magazine which has carried out a recent survey called the New Luxuries Female Lifestyle Study, says that women have the power to effect changes in the work-life balance as has been evidenced in the past. And she adds that that the male orientated way in which the employment world operates is considered by female employees to be a “crazy way to live”.
This call for change from working women will likely see a revolutionary change in working structures. As psychotherapist and magazine contributor Derek Draper comments, “Men have dominated the workplace for decades if not centuries and there’s been no change.”
But it does seem the time is coming now, especially with the unprecedented growth in the numbers of female freelancers who have decided to take matters into their own hands! |
