My Fathers Memoirs to be translated from French to American.

"Mémoires d'Antonin Steiner" are my father's memoirs that need to be translated from French to English. He spent most of his life in Istanbul, so it includes many Turkish terms. The book is almost 500 pages, over 125,000 words. This is the PRÉFACE I wrote. Ces mémoires sont le récit de la vie de mon père qu’il a rédigé pen- dant sa retraite, à Athènes. Ce document a été écrit avant l’arrivée de l’Internet, au cours des années 1970 et 1980, sur une machine à écrire datant probablement des années 1930 ou 1940, machine que je conserve toujours dans la cave de notre maison à Columbus, dans l’état de l’Ohio. Mon père l’avait fait modifier par des artisans situés à Sirkeci, devant la poste centrale d’Istanbul, pour y ajouter tous les accents nécessaires afin de taper en français, en tchèque et en turc. J’ai reçu de mon père les pages originales dactylographiées ou leur copie en carbone – parfois les deux – au fur et à mesure de leur rédac- tion, dont je possède encore les sept premiers chapitres, desquels j’ai fait quelques photocopies pour les archives de famille. Cependant, l’acteur essentiel de la publication de ces mémoires est Yves Durin, mon copain de l’INSA Toulouse, qui a entièrement retapé ce document en utilisant une des versions originales du logiciel Word, dans les années 1990. Il a aussi pris le temps de l’illustrer avec des photos trouvées en ligne. Ce travail nous a permis de disposer d’une copie dématérialisée des mé- moires de mon père. Même si, malheureusement, il manque quelques pages ici et là, ce livre représente la version intégrale des feuillets trans- mis par mon père. En 2023, je me suis finalement décidé à publier ces mémoires. J’ai été inspiré par le travail de Hans Jürgen Vorndran, dont le père, Hans Jo- hann Vorndran, était le cousin germain de mon père (leurs mères étaient sœurs). Hans Jürgen a édité et publié Brückenbauer Vorndran, un livre en allemand sur son père qui a vécu et travaillé de longues années en Turquie et qui a notamment participé à la construction du pont de Ga- lata, souvent mentionné dans les présentes mémoires. J’ai fait traduire et publier le livre en anglais sous le titre de Bridge Builder Vorndran1. C’est ce qui m’a incité à faire de même pour les mémoires de mon père, dans sa version originale en français, que j’espère aussi faire traduire et publier en anglais. C’est un autre copain de l’INSA Toulouse, Christian Viroulaud, qui m’a introduit à Cathy Mandonnet de l’Œil du livre pour m’aider à éditer les mémoires de mon père, avec le support de Léa Vicente pour l’icono- graphie. C’est ici que je dois faire un commentaire très significatif pour les lecteurs de ces mémoires. Suivant les conseils de Cathy, et après mûre réflexion, nous avons décidé, dans les chapitres huit à douze, de supprimer certains paragraphes dans lesquels le parti pris de mon père contre ma mère, Gilberte, résultait dans de longues sections de règle- ments de comptes personnels et parfois tout à fait faux. Ces passages souvent malveillants ne représentaient aucun intérêt pour la compréhension de l’histoire de notre père et de notre famille. Des deux parties de ce livre, j’ai toujours considéré celle qui concerne la période précédant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, comme la plus inté- ressante. Elle me rappelle les conversations d’après dîner, durant les- quelles notre père nous parlait de ses aventures d’enfance. Dans la se- conde partie, qui relate le mariage avec ma mère et les complications pendant et après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l’histoire n’est plus aussi claire. On a une idée générale de ce qui s’est passé dans la vie de mon père, mais tout est interprété avec un parti pris pour justifier ses déci- sions. De cette époque, mon père a conservé ses correspondances avec sa famille, que j’essaierai aussi d’assembler et publier plus tard. Une fois publié, ce livre sera distribué en copies multiples à tous les descendants de notre famille. Il sera aussi disponible pendant les longues années qui suivront, pour achat en ligne. J’espère que vous en profiterez. Sommaire contextuel de l’histoire de notre famille: Pour offrir un cadre plus complet aux souvenirs de mon père, j’ai- merais esquisser brièvement l’histoire de notre famille. Bien que non exhaustif, ce résumé repose sur les informations que j’ai rassemblées au fil des années, grâce à mes recherches généalogiques et à mes échanges nombreux avec les membres de ma famille. Les correspondances avec ma cousine Jarmila, en particulier, ont été précieuses pour retracer le parcours de mes grands-parents. Pour cela, je lui suis infiniment reconnaissant. Les parents de ma grand-mère paternelle étaient tchèques et se nommaient Urban. Ils possédaient une épicerie à Nechanice, petite ville tchèque située au nord de l’Empire austro-hongrois d’alors, près de la frontière des Sudètes. ...../.....

Copying memoirs from scanned typewriter text to Word

Hello. I have an extract of my Grandfather's memoirs that I need translating into MS Word. I would guesstimate at 40,000 words. I have attempted to extract via OCR but it has been a little hit and miss and I think probably easier to simply type from scratch. However, I can provide the word doc I attempted however. There are approx 30 pictures too but I can sort those out, It's getting the text in an editable format that is most important. I've attached some examples of the document, where the beginning is using the typewriter and the end a word processor.

I'm looking for a ghostwriter to help take a book for a client from a lot of transcripts and a loose rough structure and write the whole book. This is a book about some triggering topics. Sexual abuse Narcissism Domestic Violence Drugs & Organised Crime Amongst others... The first half of the book is how the author grew up, their early years, first relationships & jobs, how they got into drugs & crime... This particular story, they met a female police officer whilst being heavily involved in crime. Many problems happened due to this, they have quite the crazy relationship, her leaving the police, him leaving his 'job'. They go on to grow a big business together. Have a child together, Doing really well. He's coaching females through personal coaching and being very successful and a public profile growing via tv appearances, etc. All the time they are having swinging relationships with others. A lot to out there sexual encounters. This goes on to get shattered when the same former police officer partner has him arrested for controlling behaviour... He goes to prison for 19 days on remand, has a new partner already, lives with her on bail. Then she has him arrested as well when he left her... As you can tell, there's a lot gone on. But the second half of the book is all the realisations he has when he hits rock bottom and gets into therapy and get diagnosed with adult ADHD but also NPD, Narcissist Personality Disorder. But this is no common man, this is no standard lessons that he learnt in the second half of the book. He uses quotes as chapter titles in the second half and uses individual stories to bring those points in life, and the reflection of each quote chapter leads to the next quote. As each lesson he learnt, almost got deleted by the missing of the next lesson, so he had to learnt that too. Clearly there's a lot more to share on this project but hopefully this is an insight into what kind of project this is. We'd love to hear why you think you and your style would really suit this book and style. We are initially putting this job to UK only so that we can meet the writer in person and get a real feel for them during this process.
