Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Suitable person needs to have proven ability to write for local publications.
Who are we?
Group Africa Publishing is a publishing company based in Nairobi Kenya that focuses on publishing of trade journals. At present we produce Construction Review, Agricultural Review and Mining Brief. Our flag ship publication Construction Review is 20 years old today and is read throughout East, South and Western Africa. In addition to buttress the marketing effort on our products we host exhibitions and seminars in our various markets.
Our model
Currently we have a subsidiary company known as College Publishers Ltd in South Africa where the printing is done and through which we generate advertising revenue from the South African market. In addition we have agents in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Nigeria as well as representatives in China, Ghana and Malawi.
The role of our agents is to gather editorial material suitable for publication in our magazines as well as to solicit for advertising. In most cases the advertisements solicited support the features published. For instance if we write about a new office building that has been recently completed then we seek advertisements from the professional team and contractors and suppliers involved in the project. On the other hand it can be a feature on a mining company in our African Mining Brief.
Our key role is to produce a quality publication regularly and on-time which incorporates all the material received so that the magazines have both local and international flavor.
The advantages that the agents derive are to name a few
1. A high quality full color glossy publication ranging between 80 to 160 pages that meets international standards in terms of editorial, print reproduction and design quality.
2. We bill the agents only US$ 300 for every full page of advertisement (or part thereof) which allows the agent to charge his clients what he feels is fit but in the end it implies a revenue retention of up to 80 percent for the agent should he charge his clients around US$1500 per page.
3. The economies of scale allow us also to deliver to the agent a minimum of 200 copies at no extra cost except freight. Any extra copies are charged at cost of about US$ 1.4 per copy
4. Earnings from subscription sales for the first 200 copies which ranges about US$ 60 per copy per year is retained by the agent
5. For the case of Construction Review the fact that it is a monthly publication offers the agent a quick turnaround improving cash flow since the adverts booked are produced quickly
6. There are no minimum sales to go to press for the agent removing a major risk of delay in geting the magazine to the readers desk.
7. A well managed internet presence that includes a weekly e-newsletter that is mailed out to readers as well as a digital version of the publication available at the click of a mouse.
8. Low overheads or start up finances means that the agent can enjoy a high profit margin from commencement.
Please visit our flag ship publication’s site at www.Constructionreviewonline.com and http://www.ambriefonline.com/
Also review a digital version of our publications that are distributed to our digital subscribers who don’t what to receive a physical copy.
